Where to start

Our work

Payments

Real-time alerting at global card-network scale

Chief system architect for mobile alerts, offer delivery and card-to-card money transfer at a top-five global card network, coordinating onshore and offshore delivery teams against live payment infrastructure.

Specialty insurance

Thick client to web, without stopping the business

Led a cross-functional team through a modern web rebuild of core internal systems for a specialty workers' compensation carrier, introducing CI/CD and automated testing that reduced a validation cycle from months to minutes.

Security

Product engineering for enterprise vulnerability management

Feature design and development across a vulnerability management suite relied on daily by enterprise security teams, in a product where precision is the entire value proposition.

What we do

Systems architecture

The structure underneath the software — how a system divides, where its boundaries fall, and how it grows as the team and the load grow with it.

Advisory

Architecture governance, roadmap review, vendor evaluation and executive counsel — on a project basis or continuing.

Development

Custom application and platform work, built to a defined architecture, designed through to the interface, and documented for the team that inherits it.

Audits

An independent, written read on a system you depend on, delivered with a costed roadmap you own outright.

How we do it

Our current lead practice is helping engineering organizations get everything AI coding agents have to offer — by establishing precisely where full speed is free.

Most teams leave speed on the table

The line usually gets drawn by org chart, or by seniority — juniors supervised, seniors trusted. Neither tracks where velocity is genuinely free, so teams end up slower than they need to be in exactly the places agents are strongest.

Drawn well, the boundary pays twice

Full speed where speed is free, and senior judgment concentrated where it compounds. Set deliberately, the two halves reinforce each other instead of trading against one another.

Every engagement begins the same way

  1. A 30-minute call. To establish what you are actually trying to decide.
  2. Scope and price agreed in writing. Set against the system in question, and settled before any work begins.
  3. Assessment. The system is read as it is, not as the documentation describes it, with a check-in partway through.
  4. A written assessment and a costed roadmap. Delivered with an executive read-out. Bring your team if you want them in the room.

Engagements are scoped in phases, and every design is documented for handover.

Our thinking

Forthcoming

Where agents may write

A blast-radius model for deciding which parts of a system AI coding agents may author, and which stay hand-written and audited.

Forthcoming

An executive's field guide to a production crisis

What to ask, what to stop asking, and how to tell whether the people in the room are converging on a cause or guessing.

Forthcoming

Reading a system you did not build

How an outside architect forms a defensible opinion about an unfamiliar codebase inside a week.
